Ahmed Zewail, father of chemistry

Ahmed Hassan Zewail was born in February 26, 1946, in Damanhur, Buhaira Governorate, then moved at the age of four with his family to the city of Desouk in Kafr El-Sheikh.
He joined the Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, and obtained a Bachelor of Science with distinction with honors in 1967 in chemistry, and worked as a teaching assistant in the faculty, then he obtained a master's degree for research in light science.
He traveled to the United States to continue his studies on a scholarship, and obtained a doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in laser sciences, and then worked as a researcher in more than one university there.
He was promoted in academic academic positions within Caltech University until he became a principal professor of chemistry there.
Zewail obtained US citizenship in 1982.
Dr. Ahmed Zewail invented a very fast imaging system that uses a laser that has the ability to monitor the movement of particles when they arise and when they join together, and the time unit in which the image is captured is a femtosecond, which is a part of a million billionth of a second.
He has published more than 350 scientific papers in international journals such as Science and Nature.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the year 1999 for his research in the field of chemistry. He is the first Egyptian and Arab scientist to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
His name was mentioned in the list of honor in the United States, which includes the most important personalities who contributed to the American Renaissance, and his name came number 9 out of 29 prominent personalities as the most important laser scientist in the United States.
He was awarded the Medal of Merit from the first class from former President Muhammad Hosni Mubarak in 1995.
He was also awarded the Great Nile Necklace, the highest honor in Egypt.
12- In April 2009, the White House announced the selection of Zewail within the US President’s Council of Advisors for Science and Technology, which includes 20 prominent scientists in a number of fields.

Ahmed Zewail passed away on August 2, 2016 in the United States after a struggle with illness, at the age of seventy, and a military funeral was held for him on August 7, in which President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the leaders of the state participated.
